Spring Yosemite Painting Trip wildflowers in bloom!

Yosemite National Park has got to be one of my favorite places to camp and paint. This is my second trip here and I’m glad to have gotten two big paintings from here before; now it’s time for more intimate paintings. Our campsite was Upper Pines 16 this time with its own stunning views.

First day of camp we were able to get there pretty early in the day and still had some time for a painting, of a scene I wanted to do last year.

Next day we were on a mission to hike to Nevada Falls this year, but again too early in the year and all frozen over. I was able to get a great painting of Vernal Falls from the bridge though.

The waterfalls might have been full of rainwater on top of melted snow from this year’s surge of storms, but unfortunately that snow was only recently melted so the flowers had not yet begun to bloom in the park. We were able to find some blooms on our way home just outside the park near Mariposa. I don’t usually do a lot of close up flowers Georgia O’Keefe style but it’s gotten some gears turning.

Photo dump of the trip. Various pictures taken, some will go into paintings, others will stay in memory, and some on this post.

Yosemite Painting Trip Round 2 coming to an end, but the journey will continue with the next series of paintings! I will be posting updates on those paintings as they come along. With all the rainfall this year I am planning another day trip to Yosemite to see some flowers within the park, so stay tuned for those posts as well.

Another big trip being planned will be Death Valley National Park; I have been itching to go to that park or Joshua Tree National Park for some desert paintings, just hopefully not in the dead heat of summer.
